More than 100 people attended a groundbreaking ceremony for Thermo Fisher Scientific. The ceremony for a $4.5 million expansion was held at their 520 North Main St, Miami, OK facility, where they manufacture EP Scientific Products, Tuesday, February 15th.

THERMO FISHER SCIENTIFIC ANNOUNCES EXPANSION

More than 100 people attended a groundbreaking ceremony for Thermo Fisher Scientific. The ceremony for a $4.5 million expansion was held at their 520 North Main St, Miami, OK facility, where they manufacture EP Scientific Products, Tuesday, February 15th. The EP portfolio offers a full line of containers for environmental sampling and Critical Environment applications. Thermo Fisher Scientific is the world leader in serving science, enabling their customers to make the world healthier, cleaner and safer. They have more than 30,000 employees and serve over 350,000 customers worldwide.
Wes Lollar, Vice President of Operations, said “The new addition will consolidate manufacturing activities from several locations into one larger facility and will significantly improve the overall flow of the production processes”. He also stated that the expansion was fueled by the continued growth the company has experienced in recent years and the new, expanded facility will enable Thermo Fisher Scientific to successfully meet the rapidly growing demand for EP Scientific products.
Mitch Coyne, Director, Specialty Products at Thermo Fisher Scientific, noted that this expansion will allow them to better serve customers around the world and that the projected completion date of the expansion is August 2011.
Don Leggett, Site Manager for the Miami facility, praised the workforce for their dedication and hard work to make the Miami location a great success. He was also very complimentary of the cooperation of the local officials for helping make this project as seamless as possible.
Judee Snodderly, Executive Director of the Miami Area Economic Development Service, said that “Thermo Fisher is a leading high technology business and one of the very best companies in this area. Business retention and expansion are critical to local economies and even more so in the rural areas. The economic impact this company has on Northeast Oklahoma is immeasurable”. She also stated that hearing corporate and local officials from Thermo Fisher brag about the excellence of their employees is very encouraging. We believe we have a quality workforce in this area and this reinforces that belief.
Mayor Brent Brassfield stated that “Miami is very fortunate to have a quality high tech business, such as Thermo Fisher, make this kind of investment in a rural community. We very much appreciate their investment and the potential growth”.
City Manager, Huey Long, said “This is an absolute miraculous event for our community. Thermo Fisher did not have to select Miami, OK to build and we never thought in our wildest imagination that they would invest $4.5 million in a facility owned by the City of Miami. It has been an absolute honor to work with corporate and local management from Thermo Fisher to help them achieve their vision. The Miami site has gone 1,716 days without an accident. What a perfect example of a quality organization and to be so blessed to have employees led by Don and his team”.
